Boom or Bust

I realize this news is already a week old, but for those former residents that may be visiting my site and don't hear much local news, TLC (Terrace Lumber Company) has closed it's doors for good. I see the flyer for Maynards Auctions announcing TLC's auction came through the office this past week.

It's hard seeing the mill flounder once more, and all those workers losing out again. It's also frustrating hearing how busy the Prince George area is as they run around like beavers cutting down beetle wood. Or how the lower mainland and the Okanagan continue to grow in leaps and bounds. What have they got to offer that we don't? Sure they have slightly warmer seasons and better? shopping, but look at the property prices and the commutes! I love that downtown Terrace & my job is 10 minutes away from home, and I don't have to live on air conditioning in the summer.

But I have to believe that with all the projects starting to happen around here - the port development in Rupert, the mineral exploration in the north, and the LNG plans for Kitimat - the region should start to see better times in the next couple of years. Right?

Newest additions to the website: I've created a separate calendar for club meetings. I thought it would be too much clutter to include the meetings on live events calendar. Unfortunately, users won't be able to post directly to the new calendar - instead the meeting info should be submitted to me and I will do the posting. The "submit your news" link in the left navigation menu is available for sending info to me.

I've also built a "web design" page to show samples of some of the other sites I've created and maintain.

Work on the site will be sporadic this week as I work on trying to organize the Sunday Mixed Curling league.

The classified ads are starting to see more postings. If you wish to post an ad in any of the classifieds, auto sales, jobs, real estate section - and can't find an appropriate category, let me know and I'll create a new category.

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend. I'm thankful for the roof over my head, the food on my table, the love and support of my family & friends, my health, and the visitors to my websites.
