Interview with Phil o'Driscoll

Some of the Terrace locals will remember hearing about Phil being in a horrific helicopter crash happened north of Terrace on August 2, 2005. Phil was interviewed by Australia's "60 Minutes" and the episode aired this last week. You can check out the website here. I've just finished reading the transcript. The video should be available later this week.

Phil regularly calls us here at Lakelse Air for a quick chat. I last talked to him Friday morning, he'd let me know of the airing of the interview and that he's due to go to Adelaide tomorrow for his 40th surgery.

I met Phil and Kate back when Phil came to work for Lakelse Air about 2002. In 2005 when Phil returned to work in Canada he went to work flying for Quantum Helicopters. He'd stop in at Lakelse Air for a short visit. It was just a couple of months before the crash, Phil had told us he was going to be a dad. He was so excited! When the crash occurred it was a huge shock to everyone. It was months before we knew for sure that he would live, but the cost would be great, more than most of us would be willing to bear.

Phil, and his fiance Kate have made many friends in the area during the time they lived here. You're welcome to leave a comment on this post if you so wish.

Phil, when you stop by this posting for a visit - just want to say I know that it's hard some days to open your eyes. And I, like many of your friends and family, would take away a part of your pain if we could. The best I can do is just send you both positive vibrations and healing thoughts. You're never too far away in my thoughts. And when I start complaining about the little things in life, I stop and think of what you're going through.

Miss you guys! Family Friday isn't the same without you. Hugs Phil! Hugs Kate! One of these days I'll make it to Australia and give you hugs in person!
