Support Red Fridays

I was forwarded an email today that I had to check out. It's promoting "Red Fridays" - wearing a red shirt on Fridays to support our Canadian troops. It is a legitimate foundation - http://www.redfridays.ca/

We had been discussing around the office just a week or so ago, the fact that as Canadians we don't wear our patriotism on our sleeves like our American cousins. Why is that? Are we taught from a early age to not show our colours - sort of like "don't rock the boat"? Is our country really that bad that we're ashamed to say that we're Canadian when we're at home? When I went to Europe 8 years ago I was told to put a Cdn sticker on my luggage, so people would know I was Canadian rather than American. So when we're in Europe we're proud to show we're Canadian, but when we're at home it's silence?

Hmmm.... I'm going to start wearing a red shirt on Fridays. And I'm going to check Wal-Mart & Canadian Tire to see if I can find a flag. Can't put a flag on my car antenna as I don't have one...

Up & running again!

Well, got my new computer all set up. Thankfully I've been able to install all my favorite software. I was a little worried that I'd not be able to find some serial numbers or a backup of a favorite downloaded program. But all is good. As for emails, thankfully I'd made a backup just 4 days before, so I've sort of lost 4 days. I've actually got them all, but Outlook doesn't want to use that file properly, so had to resort to the backup.

Also up & running again is Phil o'Driscoll. He's been in Terrace these past couple of months and has just got his commercial helicopter license again. Congrats Phil! We're very proud of you! In a couple of days it will be his 3rd anniversary of his accident. He was telling me today that he hasn't been out to visit the crash site yet, but wants to go.

Site upgrades

My computer may be down for the count, but tech support has been busy revamping parts of NorthCoastBCOnline.

The Real Estate classifieds section has a new look. A cleaner look, driving directions and maps, refer to friend options. Plus there's a few other changes for property brokers and real estate agents.

I'm also considering changing the events calendar to a Google Calendar. This will allow regional groups and businesses to create their own free public Google Calendars and have them attached to my Google Calendar for viewing by visitors to NorthCoastBCOnline. If this happens, we won't be able to use logos/graphics inside the events, but I'll still have the large graphic space available above or under the calendar for posting images of upcoming events. Let me know what you think.

Computer woes

Hello fellow web surfer!

I'm in a bit of a pickle at the moment. The power supply & motherboard blew up on my old Dell this past Sunday. So at the moment I'm stuck trying to read emails / attempting web updates with an old Dell laptop I borrowed from work. Unfortunately, this laptop is having difficulty displaying web pages properly so I'm having some problems approving classified ads, general web page updates on my site NorthCoastBCOnline.

I'm still waiting for a quote from Compusmart as to how much it would cost to replace the power & motherboard. Chances are I'll likely order a new system from Dell. I haven't found a new system around town that has the features I want (like XP - I still use software/hardware that doesn't like Vista - or is that Vista doesn't like). Unfortunately, that means I'll be without a desktop computer for at least a week yet.
